Our Learning Centre
Part time alternative provision
Our lovely little Centre is situated just outside Waterbeach. The grounds are full of wild flowers and wildlife- we are frequently visited by rabbits, woodpeckers and butterflies.
Our aim is to make Alp a place where both learners and staff feel welcome.
When you arrive at Alp, you can help yourself to tea and toast. We always try to have a relaxed start and have plenty of breaks while you are with us. The small number of learners means we will really be able to get to know you.

Our Learners
We love diversity! And we know that every learner is unique. Our highly experienced staff will work with you to develop a learning programme that is just what you need. Examples include:
Sophie*, 16
Sophie has always been a high attainer. She began year 10 on track for ten excellent GCSE grades but high anxiety means she just can't face the classroom; she has spent months out of education and is now in year 11. She doesn't know how she can possibly sit GCSE exams in June.
Are you a Sophie?
We could...
help you to rebuild your confidence.
provide you with a safe and caring environment in which to make friends and learn.
carefully teach you the most important aspects of English, Maths and Science so that you are well prepared for your GCSEs this year.
support you (when you are ready) to study other subjects, liaising closely with your school, setting up daily tasks and helping you to work towards your GCSEs successfully.
"Sophie" went on to...
achieve seven excellent GCSE grades.
study A levels at a mainstream sixth form college.
Oliver*, 12
Oliver has found the transition to secondary school extremely difficult. He has got into a lot of trouble and hates going in. Oliver sometimes finds learning challenging and needs his work to be at the right level for him which isn't always happening at school.
Are you an Oliver?
We could...
provide expert teaching at just the right level in English, Maths, Science and ICT- with lots of practical activities.
let you try out lots of enrichment activities and build in time to work on basic skills.
help you choose some cross-curricular topics that you could enjoy learning about e.g. Space, Oceans, The Victorians or Designing a building.
support you to transition back to your school when you are ready.
"Oliver" went on to...
make excellent progress in the core subjects.
develop strategies for dealing with conflict.
successfully return to mainstream school.
Emmanuel*, 14
Mainstream school just isn't right for Emmanuel and this year has been particularly turbulent. He needs something different. Emmanuel is very concerned as he knows he has missed a lot of learning but just doesn't get on with the teaching methods he has experienced so far.
Are you an Emmanuel?
We could...
help you work towards awards in areas such as Business Studies, Geography, Hairdressing and Art.
provide learning with qualified, subject specialist English and Maths teachers who will take the time to find out the best way to teach you.
show you that you can be successful.
provide a supportive, nurturing learning environment to help you to recover your confidence, enthusiasm and self belief.
"Emmanuel" went on to...
become a happy and confident young person.
make friends.
love learning!
